Need to Know Info on Oral Pathology
Dr. Sedaros is proud to serve as your local oral pathology professional. Slight alterations in your mouth’s appearance can be a signal of a greater health issue, which is why you should inform your doctor of any changes.
Your mouth is typically lined with a special skin or mucosa that is smooth and coral pink. Changes in your mouth’s appearance can be in indicator of a more serious issue or pathological process. Oral cancer is the most serious pathological process when it comes to your oral health. There are several signs in the early stages of this process including:
- Red or white patches in your mouth
- Sores that don’t heal or bleed easily
- Lump or thickening of skin inside of your mouth
- Chronic sore throat, hoarseness
- Difficulty chewing or swallowing
Some changes can be noticed on your lips, cheeks, palate, gum tissue, tongue, face and/or your neck. Pain does not necessarily occur with pathology. As your oral surgery associates we remind you to perform self-exams monthly and take your mouth’s warning signs seriously.
