Four Tips to Recover from a Tooth Extraction
Many people undergo tooth extractions every year. The reasons behind each extraction are different; some are to relieve patients from the pain of an impacted wisdom tooth, others to make room for dental implants or surgery. Whatever the case, extraction can be a painful procedure to recover from. We want our patients to recover quickly and without pain so we’ve come up with four foolproof tips to make tooth extraction recovery a breeze.
- Make sure you bite down on the provided gauze pad for at 30 to 45 minutes to create a healthy clot. If bleeding or oozing persists, continue to bite down for another 30 minutes.
- Do not smoke, drink alcohol, drink through a straw or rinse vigorously fore a whole day. This can dislodge your clot and impede healing.
- For swelling, and pain turn to ice packs for instant relief. If pain is intense, use your prescribed medications as directed. Don’t forget your antibiotics to stave off infection.
- Resume your normal dental routine after 24 hours to keep your teeth clean and encourage continuous healing.
Recovering from a tooth extraction doesn’t have to be a painful, drawn-out process. By following these four steps you’ll experience a speedy recovery. If you have questions about your upcoming tooth extraction or one that was performed in the past, please give us a call today.
