Do Your Wisdom Teeth Require Extraction?
At Sedaros Oral Surgery we are proud to be your dental surgeon in Melbourne. If you’re between the ages of 17 and 25, chances are your wisdom teeth have already erupted. Typically wisdom teeth require extraction because they can cause damage to surrounding teeth and cause infection.
While most wisdom teeth require extraction in order to prevent damage to surrounding teeth, there are some cases in which extraction is not required. During your exam, Dr. Sedaros will evaluate your condition and determine whether or not extraction is required in your specific scenario. According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, wisdom teeth are typically removed when there are:
- Infections and/or periodontal gum disease
- Cavities that can’t be restored
- Cysts, tumors or other pathologies
- Damage to surrounding teeth
If you experience any dental discomfort or pain, don’t hesitate to contact your dental surgeon in Melbourne. We look forward to finding a solution to your dental discomfort.
